Home Garden Kit Distribution to 300 differently abled families through WECAN, Mannar

WE-CAN (wecan-sl.org) is an organization serving the differently abled people in Manthai west divisional secretariat, Mannar, Northern province. It was formally registered in 2016 and has 646 members. Many members have lost limbs or got injured during the war. Their tag line is “Creative Jobs for Differently Abled”. 

WE-CAN is engaging differently abled people and their families through various initiatives, including growing a plant nursery, producing compost, peanut farm, peanut butter production, and handmade broom production. They have storefronts selling their products.  They provide job training, educational assistance, and medical assistance.

For the July project, LetUsHelpNow is collaborating with WE-CAN to provide a home garden kit consisting of 50 plants (tomato, eggplant, okra, chillies, banana peppers), 10 Kg compost, and spade (one for every four families) to 300 differently abled families. It costs about 3000 LKR or C$ 10 per home garden kit.  

The plants and compost are produced by WE-CAN itself, and it will undertake the work of identifying and distributing the kits. Further, WE-CAN will engage three differently abled people as staff for three months to assist the families in setting up the home garden.

This is a win-win project for WE-CAN and for the differently abled families it serves. Given the current economic and political crisis in Sri Lanka, LetUsHelpNow has been assisting care homes and organizations assisting differently abled people with projects such as home gardens, poultry farming to enhance their sustainability.  

இம்மாதம் மன்னார் மாவட்டத்திலுள்ள மாந்தை மேற்க்கு பிரிவு செயலகத்திலுள்ள WECAN  மாற்றுத் திறனாளிகள் அமைப்புடன் இணைந்து ஏறத்தாள 300 மாற்றுத்திறனாளிக் குடும்பங்களுக்கு வீட்டுத்தோட்டம் அமைக்க  உதவவுள்ளோம்.

WECAN  மாற்றுத் திறனாளிகள் அமைப்பானது 2016 ம் ஆண்டு ஆரம்பிக்கப்பட்டு 646 பயனாளிகளாகவும் இதிலும் போரினால் அங்கங்களை இழந்தவர்கள் அதிகமாகவும் உள்ளனர்.

உயர்ந்த சமூக வாழ்வை மாற்றுத்திறனாளிகளும் வாழ வேண்டும் என்ற நோக்கத்துடன் மாற்றுத்திறனாளிகளுக்கான உரிமைகள் தொடர்பான விடயங்களை உகந்த வகையில் கவனம் கொள்ளச் செய்வது, மாற்றுத்திறனாளிகளை வலுவூட்டுதல்இ மருத்துவ ஆதரவை பெற்றுக் கொடுத்தல், மாற்றுத்திறனாளிகளின் எதிர்காலம் குறித்து நிலைபேறான அபிவிருத்தித் திட்டங்களை நடைமுறைப்படுத்த திட்டங்களை முன்வைப்பதும் அவற்றை முன்னெடுத்துச் செல்வதும் அமைப்பின் கடமைகளாகும்.

இம்மாதம் மன்னார் மாவட்டத்திலுள்ள மாந்தை மேற்க்கு பிரிவுசெயலகத்திலுள்ள 300 மாற்றுத்திறனாளிக் குடும்பங்களுக்கு வீட்டுத்தோட்டம் அமைக்க ஒவ்வொரு குடும்பங்களுக்கும் தலா 50 கன்றுகள் ( மிளகாய், கறிமிளகாய், கத்தரி, வெண்டி, தக்காளி). 10 Kg சேதன பசளை மற்றும் மண்வெட்டி (  நான்கு குடும்பங்களுக்கு ஒன்று) வழங்கவுள்ளோம்.

மரக்கன்றுகளும் சேதனப்பசளையும்  WECAN  மாற்றுத் திறனாளிகள் அமைப்பின் உற்பத்திகளாகும்.  அத்துடன் ஒவ்வொறு 100 குடும்பங்களுக்கும் தலா ஒரு உத்தியோகத்தகர் ( மாற்றுத்திறனாளி உறுப்பினர்) ஒருவர் முன்று மாதங்களுக்கு இக்குடும்பங்களுக்கு தேவையான விவசாய ஆலோசனைகள் மற்றும் தரவு சேகரித்தல், அறிக்கை தரல் போன்ற பணிகளை புரிவார்.  100 குடும்பங்களுக்கான வீட்டுத்தோட்ட திட்டம் ரூபா 292,000. அன்னளவாக ஒரு குடும்ப வீட்டுத்தோட்டம் 10 கனடிய டொலர்கள்.

இம்மாத திட்டமானது   WECAN  மாற்றுத் திறனாளிகள் அமைப்பிற்கு உதவுவதாகவும், மாற்றுத்திறனாளிக் குடும்பங்கள் பயன்பெறுவதாகவும், மூன்று பயனாளிக்களுக்கான வேலையாகவும் அமைகிறது.
