Home Gardening Assistance to 200 Disabled Families in Mannar

WE-CAN (wecan-sl.org) is an organization that serves differently-abled people in the Manthai West Divisional Secretariat, Mannar, Northern Province. It was formally registered in 2016 and has 600 members. Many members have lost limbs or were injured during the war. Their tagline is “Creative Jobs for the Differently Abled”.

We assisted them in 2022 by providing home gardening kits to 300 families. Building on that project, this month (July 2024), we will be assisting WE-CAN in providing home gardening kits to 200 families with disabled members. These families have been selected with the help of the district administration.

The vegetable and fruit plants can be planted either in the ground or in bags. The plants include eggplants, chillies, chili peppers, tomatoes, okra, papaya, vine greens, and green vegetables. Initial organic fertilizer will also be provided.

Furthermore, two individuals with special needs will be engaged in implementing this project. They will distribute the plants, provide advice about home gardening, and collect feedback from the community.

During the upcoming rainy season, these families with special needs members will benefit from their home gardens. We will be able to further assist families who fully engage in home gardening in subsequent rounds as well.

மன்னார், மாந்தை மேற்கில் சிறப்புத் தேவையுள்ளோர்களின் குடும்பங்களாக 602 குடும்பங்கள் WE CAN மாற்றுத் திறனாளிகள் அமைப்பினூடக பிரதிநிதித்துவம் செய்யப்படுகிறார்கள். இவர்களில் 200 குடும்பங்களை, அவர்களின் வீட்டுத் தோட்ட அமைப்பு மற்றும் அவர்களின் ஈடுபாட்டுக்கு அமைய பிரதேச சபை மற்றும் WE CAN மாற்றுத் திறனாளிகள் அமைப்பினால் தெரிவு செய்யப்பட்டு மரக்கறி கன்றுகள் வழங்கப்பட உள்ளன.  WE CAN மாற்றுத் திறனாளிகள் அமைப்பு இச்செயல்  திட்டத்தினை நடைமுறைப்படுத்தும்.

மரக்கன்றுகள் அவர்களின் நில அமைப்பிற்கு ஏற்ப, நிலத்திலோ அல்லது பைகளிலோ நடப்படவுள்ளன. இவற்றில்  கத்தரி, மிளகாய், கறிமிளகாய்,  தக்காளி,  வெண்டி, பயிற்றை கன்றுகளும் பப்பாசி மற்றும், கீரை வகைகள் செடி பசளி, கொடி பசளிகளும் அவற்றிக்கான ஆரம்ப இயற்கை உரமும் வழங்கப்படும்.

அத்துடன் இரண்டு சிறப்பு தேவையுள்ளோரை இவற்றை வினியோகிக்கவும் இத்திட்டத்தினை நடைமுறைப்படுத்தவும் நிதி வழங்கப்படும். இவர்கள் கன்றுகளை இக்குடும்பங்களுக்கு வழங்கல், ஆலோசனை வழங்கல் மற்றும் பின்தொடர்ந்து எமக்கு திட்ட அறிக்கை தரல் போன்ற செயல்களை செய்யவுள்ளார்கள்.

வரும் மழைகாலத்தில் இவற்றின் மூலம் இந்த சிறப்புத் தேவையுள்ளோரை சார்ந்த குடும்பங்கள் பயன் பெறும். அத்துடன் இவர்களில் அதிக நாட்டமுள்ள குடும்பங்களுக்கு தேவையான  வீட்டுத்தோட்ட உதவிகளை அடுத்த சுற்றுக்களில் செய்ய முயலலாம்.
